ADVENT TUESDAY DAY 10: TOLD

Today is Tuesday and is the tenth day of Advent.  Our word for today is "Told."

Luke 2:17 When they had seen him, they told what the angels had said about this child.

Angels came
Announcement bold
Angels sent
Shepherds told  rfe

The angels gave to the shepherds the greatest news that had been heard in hundreds of years.  They followed up on the words of the Angels and went to Bethlehem to see for themselves what had transpired that glorious night.  There they found the Christ Child, the promise of God fulfilled.  A savior (messiah) had come to Israel.

They told what had happened with the angels.  No doubt they continued to tell of all the events of that night.  It was Good News!

Today we live in a world where news is told to us twenty four-seven.  And so much of the news is dark and reflects a world in turmoil.  We get bad news overload.  What would happen if we got as excited as the shepherds and began to tell the Good News of Christ?

I am not proposing that we bury our head in the sand, but only that we respond to the bad news with good news... to answer the negative with a positive.  We could began to practice it during this Christmas season, but continue it throughout the year.

When you get with friends to discuss "whatever," and the conversation turns to the economy, or politics, or something else as equally negative, inject some good news.  You do not have to seem "holier-than-thou."  Just share a brief word about how the Lord has blessed you in resent days.

We are told by Christ to be salt and light.  Salt preserves and light makes clear the truth.  But we have to leave salt behind our encounters, and turn the light on when we find ourselves in a dark conversation.

In the past week what kind of news have you told and to whom have you told it?  The following is a bit dated, but it still has something to say.

A Little Good News
I rolled out this morning
Kids had the mornin' news show on
Bryant Gumbel was talkin' 'bout the fighting in Lebanon
Some senator was squawkin' 'bout the bad economy
It's gonna get worse you see, we need a change in policy

There's a local paper rolled up in a rubber band
One more sad story's one more than I can stand
Just once how I'd like to see the headline say
"Not much to print today, can't find nothin' bad to say", because

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'ed, nobody burned a single buildin' down
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today

I'll come home this evenin'
I'll bet that the news will be the same
Somebody takes a hostage, somebody steals a plane
How I wanna hear the anchor man talk about a county fair
And how we cleaned up the air, how everybody learned to care
Whoa

, tell me

Nobody was assassinated in the whole Third World today
And in the streets of Ireland, all the children had to do was play
And everybody loves everybody in the good old USA
We sure could use a little good news today

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'ed, nobody burned a single buildin' down
FADE
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today

The one thing I would add is this.  "Hey, let me tell you about some good news I heard.  A Savior, by the name of Jesus has come into the World.  He is God come to us.  He can lighten your burdens, and help you carry your load.  He can bring you forgiveness and a sense of worth.  He can promise to be with you and give you eternal life for now and forever.  Is not that Great News?"

WE NEED GOOD NEWS TWENTY FOUR-SEVEN
